A delightfully grim tale about an undead fox whose lonely existence is turned upside down when he learns his job as usher of souls is in jeopardy, perfect for fans of Kate DiCamillo and Tim Burton.
The Undead Fox of Deadwood Forest introduces Clare, an undead fox haunted by solitude in the shadowy world of Deadwood Forest. Caught in a liminal state between life and death, Clare was offered a choice: to cross into the Afterlife or to become an Usher of wandering souls. Despite finding some purpose in guiding animal souls to each of the four realms, Clare struggles with profound loneliness.
Everything changes when Gingersnipes, a badger soul, unexpectedly arrives at Clare's doorstep. Seeking guidance, Clare turns to Hesterfowl, the prophetic grouse who recently warned of impending upheaval in Deadwood. In a shocking twist, Hesterfowl reveals Clare’s own impending demise—this time, truly fatal. Confronted with his bleak destiny, Clare is devastated, outraged, and resolved to alter his fate at any cost.
